How doming and badges work
The logo is printed onto a decal, and clear polyurethane resin is dispensed over it. The resin self-levels, holds its own edge and cures into a raised, glossy lens over the print. It magnifies the artwork underneath and seals it against water and abrasion.
Badges work on the same principle but are made as a separate component and then fixed to the product, which is how a full-colour mark gets onto a surface that cannot be printed on directly. Either way the artwork is printed first, so colour count is not a cost driver the way it is with screen or pad printing.
What doming and badges suit
Doming suits detailed, multi-colour logos on hard products, and anywhere the branding has to survive handling. The raised lens is a finish in its own right and is usually specified because of how it looks and feels, not only because it protects the print.

- Vector artwork (AI, EPS or PDF) is preferred; a high-resolution raster file works where the design demands it. The dome magnifies whatever is under it, so a low-resolution file shows its edges more here than it would flat.
